Supporting people with Multiple Sclerosis and Parkinson’s to live well in their community
MS and Parkinson’s Canterbury are looking for a Health and Well-being Advisor. The purpose of this role is to support people with MS and Parkinson’s with a focus on educating and empowering them to manage their condition while living in the community.
You will be working as part of the health team including a nurse and exercise coordinator to develop individual self-management plans and to educate, support, assess, and assist those living with MS or Parkinson’s, including their whanau and carers. Providing current evidence-based information and advice to our service users directly and to the wider community through digital pathways, MSP newsletters, workshops, and seminars is central to this role. We work to increase the options available to people in their local community by having a thorough understanding of these conditions.
Upskilling and educating other health providers and organisations to increase awareness of working with people with MS and Parkinson’s is an important aspect of the position.
This role will appeal to you if you wish to continue to learn and upskill on MS and Parkinson’s conditions and work closely with those in the neurological field. A collaborative approach is key to the role as you work with the MSP team to develop relationships with other neurological providers and liaise with neurologists and other health professionals. Assisting our service users and whanau to navigate the integrated health system is an important aspect of our work.
You will need a current annual practicing certificate and the ability to conduct assessments for health management plans for people with MS and Parkinson’s and Parkinsonisms. Our ideal candidate will have previous experience with MS, Parkinson’s, or other neurological disorders, and experience delivering educational presentations to groups. You will have outstanding communication skills.
The role is 30 hours per week.
